Banking Regulatory Assistant Manager

Our Clients Regulatory team provides regulatory advisory services to assist leading organisations across the financial services sector.

Responsibilities:

  • Advising regulated clients within the Banking sector on the impact of changing regulation across the governance, risk and compliance (GRC) landscape and supporting them through that change including in the following areas:
  • Corporate governance and culture
  • Individual Accountability and Senior Managers and Certification Regime
  • Board/Governance structures and effectiveness
  • Governance and culture s166 (skilled person) reviews
  • FCA/PRA Senior manager function approval (including application and interview assistance)
  • Three lines of defence and risk management frameworks
  • Conduct risk
  • Horizon scanning and the impact of GRC regulatory change
  • Supporting firms in the delivery of their own compliance responsibilities
  • Delivering client engagements, working in both small sized teams and larger, multi-disciplinary teams. This would include the whole engagement lifecycle: Planning to completion and reporting directly to the engagement manager and partner.
  • Keeping up to date with industry specific issues and circumstances which affect banking regulation.
  • Supporting the provision of advice regarding regulatory requirements affecting the banking sector
  • Assisting in the preparation of presentations, training, thought leadership, and marketing materials.

Additional responsibilities would include:

  • Providing subject-matter expertise on engagements run by others.
  • Developing and maintaining strong relationships with colleagues and building an internal network.
  • Playing a role in business development for the Banking Regulatory Team and wider business, which might include building of propositions and taking these to market as well as identifying opportunities for on-sell from existing client engagements.
  • Playing a role in research, insight development and knowledge management.
  • The delivery of all client work/internal projects to a high standard

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Minimum of three or more year’s work experience in dealing with the regulatory, risk management or compliance obligations within the banking sector, which may include the following:
  • Understanding of businesses, structures, governance frameworks, and process and control infrastructures of firms in the Banking/Insurance sector
  • Knowledge of and experience in the risk or compliance function of a regulated entity.
  • Knowledge of UK regulations such as FRC Corporate Governance Code, SYSC, Principles of Business etc.
  • Working knowledge of the latest developments in banking GRC regulation e.g. ESG and SMCR
  • Knowledge of the FCA and/or the PRA’s Supervisory Frameworks.
  • Regulatory/operational experience of the FCA’s and/or PRA’s requirements covering corporate governance, assurance frameworks, organisational systems/controls and key customer interfaces.
  • The ability to be flexible and work across a number of sectors within the financial services industry.
  • Industry recognised qualification (e.g. CISA, FPC, IMC, CFA etc.) desirable but not essential.

Experience and Knowledge:

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent
  • Professional qualification preferred, with strong knowledge of regulatory rules and guidance but crucially practical application within the Banking industry.
  • The ability to evaluate technical issues, analyse facts, consult and deliver solutions to clients
  • Knowledge of the Banking sector is important, and knowledge of the investment and fund management, insurance and pensions sectors is useful but not essential.
  • Knowledge of the regulatory requirements on risk management, product governance, corporate governance, assurance frameworks, organisational systems/controls.
  • Understanding of regulatory developments and key current issues facing clients.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, including an ability to communicate well with clients (internal and external) in writing and verbally.
